– Don’t ride to get fit? Get fit to ride longer, ride stronger and have more fun.

Do you love to ride but the rides don’t love you?

Do you get halfway through a climb and start thinking about how much you can afford to spend to get a lighter bike? Do you deal with any of these:

  • Back pain
  • Tight hamstrings
  • Sore knees
  • Numb toes on a long ride
  • Lack of flexibility that won’t let you stay in an aero position for long

Or maybe you’re just heavy. You ride miles and miles and you gut is still the first thing you notice when you put on your kit.

Many of these above are about muscle imbalances that are common to cyclists. If all you do is ride you’re prone to a weak core, in particular, and lack of flexibility (all too common as we age, especially if you spend your non-biking hours in a chair staring at a little screen).

Wouldn’t you rather get on the bike and just be able to fly? Don’t you want your body to reflect the hours you spend in the saddle?

Duh. Of course you do.

Getting out into the fresh air to ride is freedom and it should be an experience of pure joy, but with aches and pains and core weakness that is not the case. I have found that by balancing my time in the saddle with effective cross-training I can truly experience the joy of my rides and focus my attention on the moment, not my aching back.

Plenty of people will tell you that all you need to do is ride. Really? How’s that working out for you? Do your weekend rides turn you into Alberto Contador? In all seriousness, if you are exceptionally fit and ride without pain or discomfort, that’s fantastic, but the vast majority of people need more to be truly fit. The magic happens when you’ve got a strong core, great flexibility and great nutrition all going at once.

There are dozens of great programs available, but I will encourage you to focus on one of four programs that I feel are best able to address the needs of busy, working adults who are already spinning enough plates.

I take great care in selecting participants for each Challenge Group and we work to build a community of friendship, love and unqualified support and motivation for each participant.
