Workout – 2/3/14

Back in the saddle.

It’s funny. When you’re a couch potato the toughest part is getting motivated to exercise, and stay with it, but once you’ve gotten into the habit of doing workouts recovery weeks are a beast. Today was a busy day, and a day on which I wasn’t feeling 100% fantastic (thanks Super Bowl Party food and drink for that), but being motivated to do a workout piece of cake.

It certainly did not hurt knowing that the P90X3 workout I had waiting for me was only 30 minutes long. (Sorry, that sounded like an infomercial, didn’t it?) Seriously though, there have been times when I knew I was going to have to block out an hour or more to get my workout in and moving towards it seemed daunting. This one? Ha!

Anyway, tonight’s disk was Total Synergistics: A little bit of balance, a little bit of plyometrics (very little, actually) and a little bit of resistance work. Bing, bang, boom. Done. At the end I was sweaty as heck and appreciated the weighted moves done on one foot. Lots of core work there that I’m sure I’ll feel even more in the morning.

I hadn’t previewed the video prior to doing the workout, so that meant a little bit of scrambling to get my weights set and a at least one stab at the pause button because I really wasn’t ready, but nothing too awful. Next time I’ll be better prepared (and I plan to preview each video before doing it now). One thing I did think of and was glad about – with this kind of shorter workout I went for a pretty heavy dumbbell on the resistance moves because I do actually want to challenge myself, and X3 isn’t a graduate program like X2. Having done both P90X (multiple times) and P90X2 I knew I’d need to kick up the weights to make sure I got the most out of the program.

I definitely enjoyed this workout.

Keep. Pushing. Play.
