Muscle Confusion…

Muscle Confusion.

This article is hilarious.  I’ve done P90x, and while I think it’s one of the best home workout programs out there, the notion that there’s anything particularly novel about the highly touted “muscle confusion” system it claims to be based on, is just ridiculous.

As the author of the article linked above puts it – if you do the same thing over and over again your body adapts and you stop making progress.  That doesn’t mean you need to alter your program constantly.  Just lift heavier weight, do more reps, run farther/faster – just do something that’s difficult, challenge your body and your nervous system and you’ll keep making progress.

P90x works not because of some radical theory.  It works because Tony Horton is a very motivating guy who shows, from the beginning, how to make the workouts continuously challenging.  Besides, if you go from doing very little activity to working out for an hour a day, six days a week, clean up your nutrition, watch what you eat and keep at it for three months you pretty much can’t help but improve your fitness and appearance.
